I've never been treated harshly by any comic store guys. I've had a man be quite surprised that the comics I was buying were actually for me, but never anything negative. I used to be intimidated about going into comic shops, like I was out of place. However, I think most guys (as exemplified by our wonderful BAMF! and hidden) think women who read comics are a pleasant surprise. So now, I'm not a Scardywhisk!

When I go into the comic shop, it's usually on my lunch break so I'm wearing business clothes. Maybe I should hop up to this guy's shop, and let him know serious, comic-loving gals out there.

WOW I am fortunate I didnt have to go through what you guys did!

I never entered a comic shop thinking it was strange,for me as a girl,to be into comics.I mean I always knew it was rare but I didnt let that get in my way.I just did my business and left.Sometimes I would get looks from guys suggesting it was cool that I was into comics.

My new comic shop is espeacially cool--Golden Apple in West Hollywood.On they're comic bags they had something written like."Cool guys and GALS get theyre comics from Golden Apple"I was pretty surprised by that.

I think its stupid.And bad business sense on the parts of some comic store owners to be discriminatory towards girls who read comics.Your always hearing them complaining how hard it is to own a comic shop now.The more people buy comics the better.Espeacially with the state of the comics industry today.

Well the moral of my story is the guy who gave me bad service went out of business. I stopped going there after I decided he was not worthy. It took about 2 years, but he must have pissed off other people and went out of business.

I've had those bad experiences and some good ones, but the odder ones I get are when I go in there in work clothes. I have to dress up for work, bleh!, and several times when I go in and someone I don't recognize is working they think I'm a salesman or cop or something. One time I came in with my press credents on by accident and they thought I was there to do a story on them and go all excited. Oops. I never did that again.

You should have messed with them a little. Tell em you were doing a story on their shope in a major publication. Maybe they would have given you some free comics as source material.

Well, Slarti, you'll be happy to know I've been receiving treatment for my pants-stealing compulsions and have it mostly undercontrol. So long as I carry a pair of khakis around.

I dunno about the rest of the fellows but I thought this place was still down. Plus I've had major problems getting online latetly.

I'm really surprised and sad to hear that you ladies have such trouble in comic shops. Maybe it's got something to do with the fact that most guys NEVER see a female entering a comicbook store, so it's probably shock. I remember seeing a movie called "Free Enterprise" in wich a guy meats this girl at a comic store, and thinking "Oh, here's where the science fiction aspect enters in."

Any place you guys(gals) go should feel grateful to have such cool people as customers.

I'm a little late in this conversation but I must say I've never had any problems in the comic shops I frequent. The owners have always been nice and even remember my name.

Maybe it's a regional thing. Very weird!

One thing I do find rather disturbing is that no women write the comics. I collect various XMen titles and have an old pile of lots of other titles --- I simply can't recall any woman's name in the writing credits. Now =that's= weird. :P
